I welcome the announcements by Minister Michael Ring of funding for projects in Mallow. Two separate streams of funding were announced in the last week, with three Mallow organisations benefiting from the Community Enhancement Programme, and the continuing development of Mallow Castle receiving support under the Outdoor Recreational Infrastructure Scheme.
The substantial investment of €200,000 for the development of a walkway and cycleway at Mallow Castle grounds is very welcome. Mallow Castle has great potential for the development of both a tourism site, and a local recreation facility. This can only be done with financial support from the government.
Minister Ring’s Department also announced smaller levels of funding for local organisations. Over 140 groups across County Cork received funding for their own projects. Mallow groups benefited with funding of over €18,000. This includes the purchase of a defibrillator by Mallow United FC, the purchase of equipment for competitions by Mallow Swans Swimming Club, and the purchase and installation of railing by Mallow Sheltered Care. This type of funding is essential for clubs and organisations to improvement their facilities.
